Bioscientifica acquires European Thyroid Journal and moves journal to OA model
01 Mar 2021
Bioscientifica, the society publisher, and commercial subsidiary of the Society for Endocrinology announces that it has acquired the European Thyroid Journal.
The European Thyroid Journal is the flagship publication of the European Thyroid Association. The publisher will also be moving the journal from a subscription to an open access model. This will remove all barriers to content in the journal, for the benefit of its existing community of thyroidologists, and enable the journal to reach new audiences.
Managing Director of Bioscientifica, Ian Russell, said “we are absolutely delighted to be partnering with the European Thyroid Association on the publication of the European Thyroid Journal. We are really looking forward to working with the Editors, and everyone involved with the journal and the Association, and utilising Bioscientifica’s strong track record of editorial development to deliver the journal’s strategic aims as it enters this important next phase.”
For over 50 years, the European Thyroid Association has facilitated and disseminated knowledge in the thyroid science and research field. Since its launch in 2012, European Thyroid Journal has been a key vessel for that mission.
“Since July 2019, when European Thyroid Journal received its first impact factor, manuscript submissions have tripled in number,” says Simon Pearce, the journal’s Editor-in-Chief. “The move to open access provides an exciting future. From this platform we aim to become the ‘go to’ journal for the most topical thyroid research.”
All future submissions to the European Thyroid Journal will be handled by Bioscientifica from 29th March 2021, and the first fully open access issue will be published in January 2022.
Bioscientifica works with leading biomedical societies to publish journals that have high impact and international reach. Bioscientifica’s growing portfolio of successful open-access journals demonstrates the backing the publisher has for this publishing model, for the benefits it offers communities of researchers, policy makers and society at large. Owned by the Society for Endocrinology, all Bioscientifica profits are redistributed back to support the biomedical community.
The European Thyroid Association is a scientific organisation, which aims to promote clinical and basic research and raise the standards of understanding and clinical practice in thyroid disease. It achieves this aim through the publication of its high-impact journal – the European Thyroid Journal – and via its annual scientific meeting, which regular attracts more than 900 active participants.
